RARE ROLLING BALL CLOCK
Circular white enamel dial with hours and minutes signed "Bagel fécit invenit 1819" on a gilt brass squellette base resting on two gilt bronze recumbent horses. Wire suspension, anchor escapement. A twelve-pronged wheel provides the driving force, activated by the passage of silver-plated balls deposited successively and progressively at the passing of the hours. One ball is deposited every half-hour, while another falls into the lower reserve drawer at the same time. The passage of a ball takes place in two stages, regulated by two barriers activated as the ball passes through.
In a glazed wooden case with a mirrored bottom, the lower drawer holds 37 marbles.
France, early 19th century. Dated 1819
