This beautiful self-portrait of the great Sarah Bernhardt shows her smooth, impassive face emerging from a case of raw material, formed by her hair and a high collar, which freeze her like a mysterious symbolist icon. We know of another copy of this extremely rare self-portrait (with a variation on the collar). It was exhibited at the landmark exhibition "Sarah Bernhardt. Et la Femme créa la Star" at the Petit Palais, Paris, 2023.
