Madame Tallien, born in Madrid in 1773, was a woman of influence during the French Revolution. She first married the Marquis de Fontenay, before meeting Tallien, whom she married in 1794. She played an important role in the end of the Terror, and was nicknamed "Notre-Dame de Thermidor" (Our Lady of Thermidor). Under the Directoire, she became a figure of fashion and Parisian society. She was close to Joséphine de Beauharnais, and had an affair with Ouvrard. She divorced Tallien in 1802, and remarried in 1805 to the Comte de Caraman, future Prince de Chimay. She died in Belgium in 1835.
