PARVINE CURIE (né en 1936)
Banyan, 1981 - 1982
Sculpture of teck wood, in two pieces
32 9/32 x 32 43/64 x 27 9/16 in.

Parvine Curie, who is now 87, is a French sculptor belonging to the New School of Paris. Strongly influenced by Spain and pre-
Columbian culture, her travels have given her a clean, austere aesthetic, sublimating the simplicity of the rustic materials she
uses. Her architectural sculptures are inspired by the places she visits, from Mayan pyramids and Hindu temples to Romanesque churches and troglodyte dwellings. Mystical and protective, most of them bearing the name of “mother”, they refer to the entrails of Gaia, whose ancient, shamanic presence would seem to fill the space with songs more ancient than the first men.
