IMPORTANT BAS-RELIEF AU LION DE SAINT MARC
in marble representing the Lion of Saint Mark, symbol of the city of Venice. The winged lion is depicted with its body in profile, its haloed head in front, holding the open Book with its raised right paw, bearing the consecrated phrase PAX TIBI MARCE, EVANGELISTA MEVS (Peace be with you, Mark, my evangelist), its frowning muzzle featuring lead-inscribed eyes and surrounded by a mane of thick locks, its tail raised in an S-shape.
Rectangular, chequered frame.
Northern Italy, Venice, second half of the 15th century.
