David Webb (1925–1975) was an American jeweller who left his mark on jewellery design in the 1960s. David Webb’s bold creations, whilst never overly complex or overloaded, remain both modern and timeless. Known for his mastery of enamel work, Webb developed a vast and surprising collection of animal motifs in vivid colours. His famous and loyal clients included the Duchess of Windsor, the actress Elizabeth Taylor and the First Lady of the United States, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. The latter brought the jeweller to the White House, where he fulfilled commissions for diplomatic gifts.

The ‘Gypsy Monkey’ is a famous design by David Webb; available in several enamel colours, it has been hugely successful. A regular visitor to New York museums, the designer may have drawn inspiration for the monkey’s posture from pre-Columbian art. Webb has reinterpreted the monkey motif, giving it a domestic feel with his bohemian earrings.
