Driving a “15” left no one indifferent, so much so that in 1938 the motoring press described it as the Queen of the Road. After a timid start, the car was such a commercial success that Citroën offered two long-wheelbase versions, an 8- or 9-seater family car with folding seats, and a limousine with an extremely spacious rear seat. The road qualities are sublimated and the comfort, with a mohair-covered interior, becomes princely. Larger, more luxurious and also more expensive, only 2,300 of the 15 Six Gs were produced until February 1940, of which around fifty survived.
Interesting not only for its rarity, but also for its history. Bought new by an industrialist from Lyon, it was requisitioned by the Lyon Kommandantur during the Occupation, and was painted the regulation white. At the Liberation, it was recovered by the Americans, who were reportedly a little slow in returning it to its original owner. Later, in the 1970s, it came into the hands of Dr René B., still in the Rhône, before he sold it to one of the most important collectors of the model in 2001. At the time, it was still close to its original condition, with only the engine (no. PD 00806, dated 3/05/1939) having been rebuilt. Sensitive to the rarity of the model, a Swiss collector became its owner and undertook an in-depth restoration spread over two years between 2012 and 2014. The bodywork (number EI 03 42) went to Hubert Haberbusch, the upholstery to Ets André in Geispolsheim| the engine, radiator and 12-volt electrical system were entrusted to Tilly in Alsace, with the installation of a stainless steel exhaust system. The gearbox (dated 18 July 1939) and the Roger Williams transmission were restored by Aloïs Peter, with a new, specially cut differential. In 2019, Aguttes sold this magnificent collection, including this extremely rare 15 Six G Familiale, to its current owner. After a mechanical overhaul and careful work on the bodywork, we are fortunate to be able to offer it for sale again in what can only be described as exceptional condition.
Equipped with an OLD (Olivier Lecanut-Deschamps) roof rack and a set of Robergel accessory wheels, its overall appearance is both splendid and prestigious. The interior features a front bench seat, an unusual arrangement for a 15 wagon, and a twin-carburettor engine. To say that we were blown away by its roadholding would be an understatement. It lives up to its reputation!
