1939 - PEUGEOT 402 B LIMOUSINE BREAK WOODY PAR LES ETS LOURTIOUX
Swiss registration document
Vehicle for temporary importation
Unique model with bodywork just after the war
Perfect working order and presentation
Rare optional Cotal gearbox
A long history
Very fine provenance, Peugeot certificate
According to information provided by Peugeot’s sales department, the model we are presenting is a 402 B Limousine Type N5, which left the factory on 27 October 1939 for the French Air Ministry. Fitted with a Cotal gearbox for extra driving pleasure and comfort (an option that was prohibitively expensive at the time!), this car has a singular history as well as an
exceptional provenance, to say the least. Purchased just after the war from the Domaines, it was specially rebodied by Etablissements Lourtioux – 10 rue des Grands Près, Montluçon – at the request of its new owner, an antiques and paintings dealer from central France. After the latter’s death, the car remained immobilised, but was very properly stored with a neighbour who finally bought it a few years later. It was through the intermediary of dealer Bruno Vendiesse that it finally ended up in the hands of Lindsay Owen Jones, a racing driver (5th in the 1996 Le Mans 24 Hours) and experienced sailor, also known for having been CEO and then Chairman of L’Oréal from 1988 to 2011. Looking for an original car, it will be moved seasonally between Loir-et-Cher and Saint-Tropez so that its owner can go to the market or golf. As soon as it is purchased, the car will be sent to Lecoq to perfect a few cosmetic details, and then contact will be made with L’Aventure Peugeot to retrace part of its history (documents attached). In 2020, Aguttes will be responsible for passing the car on to its current owner. The latter will undertake a number of mechanical repairs to ensure the car remains in perfect working order.
Perfectly maintained and in superb original condition, this car is a unique and extremely endearing model, as much for its singular history as for its looks, and also for its use and the pleasure of driving it provides. If you’re looking for a unique and exclusive 402 with incredible charm, don’t miss your chance...
