The 120 Days of Sodom or The School of Libertinism. By the Marquis de Sade. Published for the first time from the original manuscript, with scientific annotations by Dr. Eugène Dühren (Paris, Club des Bibliophiles, 1904)| large in-8 (26.5 x 17.7 cm). Contemporary Hungarian binding in almond green calf, ornate ribbed spine, boards richly decorated with a gilt scroll plate with wide spandrels, salmon calf lining profusely decorated with floral irons, wide floral roulette, raw silk endpapers (spine a little faded).
First edition. Limited edition of 200 numbered copies, this 1/5 on Japon (no. 4). This edition was published in Berlin in 1904 by Max Harrwitz. Eugène Dürhen is the pseudonym of a Berlin psychiatrist, Iwan Bloch.
Text in an ornate bronze-green frame at the corners, out-of-text facsimile of a handwritten page by Sade at the end of the volume.
The prospectus is bound at the head of the volume.
