RENOIR Auguste (1841-1919).
L.A.S. "Renoir", Cagnes March 6, 1904 to Jeanne BAUDOT| 2 pages and a quarter in-8.
Beautiful letter to his former student.
[Jeanne BAUDOT (1877-1957) was a pupil of Renoir, who painted several portraits of her. She was the godmother of Jean Renoir, the painter's second son and future filmmaker.
He had many boring occupations and had to go to Paris "to get it over with. I think I'll be able to put some colors on canvas, which I haven't been able to do for a long time. Your mother told me about all your enthusiasms and I shared them from afar. It's delightful when young people like you can see new things and especially when, like you, we can understand them (I don't mean do them), but let's not be too greedy. I was happy to see you in Algeria, so clear, in this country where one is so far away and yet so close, where the Arab seems like an old friend you've always known. A kindly trickster, who shouldn't be trusted too much, but it's all great fun and nothing else can give you the joys of Algeria. For me at least, and I'm happy to see for you too. I'm back in Cagnes and the weather is still changeable. What a winter, great gods!
