Original photograph of his balloon Le Neptune, the first to leave besieged Paris on September 23, 1870. Piloted by Claude-Jules Duruof, one of the three signatories of the Convention des aérostiers, it took off from Place Saint-Pierre in Montmartre. The balloon lands near Évreux, at the Château de Cracouville, after a flight of 100 kilometers.
On verso, autograph caption: "Notre ballon d'observation le Neptune, et notre 1er poste Place St Pierre Montmartre Siège de Paris 1870. N. "
