MEROVINGIAN MANUSCRIPT. MANUSCRIT from the abbey of Saint-Martin de Tours, Tours 7th century. Parchment leaf (225 x 195 mm) in Latin, laminated to 6th- or 7th-century Egyptian papyrus leaves in Greek. Preservation case. Rare fragment of the state accounts of the abbey of Saint-Martin de Tours, pasted onto a fragment of a Greek poem on the life of Saint Joseph by Ephraim the Syrian on papyrus. The parchment account sheet was laminated to papyrus leaves, probably to strengthen it and reduce the curvature of the parchment leaves (Sati, 'Merovingian Accounting Documents', pp. 147-51).
