At top left, Louÿs has inscribed the last two stanzas of La Jongleuse from Les Chansons de Bilitis (CXXI): "Praise her, for she was skillful and did difficult tricks. She juggled hoops without breaking anything in the room, and slipped through like a grasshopper. Sometimes she did cartwheels on her hands and feet. Or, with both legs in the air and knees apart, she would bend over backwards and touch the ground, laughing. Henry BATAILLE drew, in graphite and black ink, a nude contortionist simulating decapitation, captioned: "Salomé dansant devant Hérode la danse de la 'Décollation de S. J. Baptiste' Henry Bataille 1908".
Attached is a set of 19 letters or pieces, most of them L.A.S.
