ÉLUARD Paul (1895-1952).
POÈME autograph signed "Paul Eluard", Critique de la poésie, [1944]| 1 1/2 pages in-4 on paper with gilt embossed decorative border and gilt M.

Very fine poem in tribute to the martyred poets, which concludes the collection Le lit la table, published in Switzerland in early 1944| it was also published in Poésie 44 (no. 20). In it, Éluard evokes the deaths of Garcia LORCA, SAINT-POL ROUX (and the torture of his daughter Divine), and Jacques DECOUR. The poem, 25 lines long, is neatly written in black ink on this beautifully decorated paper.
"The fire awakens the forest
The trunks the hearts the hands the leaves
Happiness in a single bouquet
Confused light melting sweet
A whole forest of friends
Gathering at the green fountains
From the good sun of blazing wood
Garcia Lorca was put to death"...
