CHATEAUBRIAND François-René de (1768-1848). L.A., Lausanne June 26, 1826, to his friend the Duchesse de DURAS| 2 pages and a quarter in-4. Letter discussing censorship and the publication of Le Dernier Abencérage. He announces their return to Paris| Mme de Chateaubriand is well and the infirmary recalls her. "As for me, I have completed the most difficult task and I am suffering so much that these two reasons determine me to cut it short. Imagine that censorship has just been established in this republic. I flee this plague at the risk of finding it again in Paris". He made a brief trip to Geneva, before returning to Lausanne for a dozen days, and then returning to Paris. "I know nothing of this world, nor of politics after the session, nor even of my edition and the fate of Aben-Hamet. I write to no one, no one writes to me, and I would be in complete repose if you were not ill, if I were not working too hard and if I were not lame. Last night I slept four hours for the first time in three weeks: now I feel sorry for poor Frisel's insomnia. I'm going to Geneva to see another patient, Mme de CUSTINE. I feel very sorry for her. Astolphe came to see me. [...] What's become of you? Are you staying in your forest? Are you going to the sea? I'll see you within a month. God be praised for everything.
