Ink and pigment painting on canvas mounted in a vertical scroll depicting an assembly of deities standing among the clouds. In the front row, dignitaries dressed in long, colorful hanfu, wearing official caps and holding Hu tablets.
Hu, including emperors, ministers and celestial dignitaries. They are accompanied by the bodhisattva Kshitigarbha and a standard-bearer. In the upper background, other dignitaries carrying documents, holding books and scrolls.

This painting was part of a set of liturgical paintings intended to be hung around the perimeter of the sacred area during the syncretic ritual of universal salvation known as the "Water and Earth Fast", a Buddhist ritual in which the deities of the celestial pantheon were invited to deliver beings of the lower realms from their suffering.
