CHINE DYNASTIE QING (1644 - 1911)
Rare jadeite brush carved in the imitation of a lotus, the bowl formed by a large leaf on which three small birds are frolicking. The interior is delicately incised to represent the leaf's veins.
The whole rests on a base formed by the main stem around which other shoots intertwine, escaping to the sides to blossom into flowers, leaves and buds. With its carved natural wood base imitating undulating waves.
H. 6 cm - Dim. 14.5 x 8 cm

NOTE
The great popularity of the lotus in Chinese art is linked not only to its use in Buddhist iconography, but also to the qualities attributed to it by traditional literary thought. Thus, it is a symbol of purity and courage, as it takes root in the mud and rises to flower on the surface of the water, far from defilement.
