The 1926 manuscript is overloaded with erasures and corrections: "Like those plants in the waters whose moving growth François de Curel evoked and which strive towards the surface where the light calls them to bloom, so the French army, hesitant in the darkness, will seek, by rising above itself, the warmth and clarity of prestige. Hard work, but for sure, it will taste the reward, since there must be a sun! "
