PAGNOL Marcel (1895-1974). autograph manuscript, Cigalon, [1935]| 17 pages in-fol. in a notebook with brick red cover.

Fragments of a script for the filming of Cigalon, made in 1935.
Cigalon was a great cook who "fell asleep" until Mrs. Toffi announced the upcoming opening of her restaurant in the same village... There are some variations between the manuscript and the edited version [Oeuvres complètes II Cinéma, Ed. de Fallois, 1995]. A family settles down for lunch in Cigalon's restaurant, and he refuses to serve them:
"Ludovic: A cook likes to cook. If you don't like cooking, you're not a cook. That's not a crime, by the way| as for the little vanity that pushes you to call yourself a cook, my God, I don't condemn it very severely| we always want to pass for what we are not: it's human. Goodbye, Mr. Cigalon.
Mrs. Toffi announces the opening of her restaurant to Cigalon. He asks her for her hand after having threatened to crush her:
"Cigalon: Joke, hogwash, stable, donkey sausage let's not talk about it! So, I thank you [...] Hold on to your chair. Don't cry. Don't scream. Don't faint.
Mrs. Toffi: Why?
Cigalon: I marry you [...] we will triumph in the restaurant that I owe you: because we are made for each other. We complement each other admirably" .... Etc.
This script also gives some technical indications on the shots, the movements of the actors: "Shots of the crowd. 1°) very good, with its counter-field. [...] 2° The bad guys. Very bad. 3. Poupon goes to the open window. Connect it to him in the movement [...] Pan over the crowd"... Etc.
