PAUL SORMANI (1817-1877)
A violet-wood veneered secretary with flap. It opens with a drawer in the waist and an upper flap richly decorated with a large painted panel of an antique couple rushing towards a fountain with winged lovers in a rocaille ormolu frame. The upper jambs are flanked by two espagnolettes with gilded bronze recesses. The flap opens onto four small filleted mahogany drawers, two of which have locks. Writing desk upholstered in green velvet. Lock plate signed "Paul Sormani 10 r. Charlot Paris". The upper part is in doucine with a gilt bronze gallery. It stands on four high, slightly curved legs with gilt bronze falls and sabots. Second half of the 19th century.
