SABRE D'OFFICIER SUPÉRIEUR TYPE CHASSEUR, 18th CENTURY
Senior cavalry officer's saber attributed to Viscount Jean-Pierre d'Abbadie de Saint-Germain (1752-1833). Gilded and chased brass mounting with teeth frieze decoration. Cap assembled at the quillon. Flat joint arch, almond-shaped cruise and extended quillon ending in a hexagonal knob. Wooden spindle covered with brass filigree (slightly relaxed, but without incidence). Curved blade with quarter-engraved groove decorated with interlacing, rocaille and Turkish motifs (slightly shortened). Wooden scabbard covered with black chagrin and held by three finely chased gilded brass fittings with frieze decoration. Lateral reinforcing rods decorated en suite. Two suspension rings. France, Louis XVI period.

PIERRE D'ABBADIE DE SAINT-GERMAIN (1752-1833)
Second lieutenant in the Royal-Navarre-cavalry regiment on September 1, 1772. Promoted to second lieutenant in 1785, then first lieutenant in 1788. Captain in the 4th cavalry regiment on January 25, 1792, he emigrated to serve in the Princes' army, then in Condé's army in 1793. He retired in 1801, receiving the Cross of the Order of Saint-Louis and the Order of the Lily during the Restoration.
