Rare brass sundial, chased and engraved with foliage, the octagonal plate with six hour divisions signed "Butterfield à Paris", gnomon with bird. The reverse side includes about sixty latitudes of the main European cities including Pignerol.
In its black chagrin case.

NOTE The city of Pignerol, whose latitude is inscribed on the reverse side of the dial, was home to the famous prison fortress where Fouquet, the Duke of Lauzun and the man in the iron mask were imprisoned under Louis XIV.
