PAIR OF FLINTLOCK POMMEL PISTOLS
Round barrels with flats, chased with fine scrolls and engraved thunderbolts. Signed "Andree sigl a Stacoverde". Handlebars chased with grotesque heads. Turntables engraved with hunting subjects, with dogs, and scroll-chased bearing covers. Walnut shafts with iron fittings also chased with foliate scrolls, with knobs decorated with grimacing masks on the cap lozenges. Ornate "en suite" trigger guards. Openwork counter plates, with chimeric animal scrolls at the ends. Bohemia, Schlackenwerth, 17th century, circa 1695.
Length: 53.3 cm (Minor restorations including a dog-head screw, carvings on the hand grips of the later shafts).
