Pair of yari ceremonial spears and their scabbards. The upper part of the shafts decorated with raden inlays, metal fittings and brass bracelets, the lower part ringed with dark brown lacquer in imitation of rope. The blades are three-sided, one of the silks bearing a signature "Shitahara Ju [...]shige saku". The yari-saya of conical shape made of animal hair.

NOTE
Since the Sengoku period, yari lances, inexpensive and formidable for keeping cavalry at bay, have been the main weapon of Japanese infantrymen.
From the Edo period onwards, yari became standard bearers and ceremonial weapons carried by the low class samurai during the daymio processions to the capital.
