Bust of Marie-Louis-Henri d'Escorches, marquis de Sainte-Croix, minister plenipotentiary in Liege from 1782 to 1791. Signed on the back Gathy. Terracotta, on a circular plaster pedestal.

Jean-Henri Gathy was born in Liege in 1752 and died in Paris in 1811. He won in 1778 the great prize of sculpture of Rome. He enjoyed a good reputation, in particular thanks to his worldly busts, among which the one of the Marquis de Sainte-Croix that we present here and which was thus greeted by the critics: "Among the best works of his time in Liège, let us retain those of the Marquis de Sainte-Croix and his wife.
