Harry Winston
: “Mr Winston was known for employing classically trained artists to design his jewellery. In his view, they possessed an innate understanding of technique and materials that brought the jewellery to life. ’ Nevdon Koumrouyan was a talented designer, head of the design studio in the 1940s; it was under his guidance that the famous Winston Cluster was created, as, we assume, was this flower.
This brooch, depicting a blooming rose entirely set with white diamonds, can be seen as a symbol of tenderness, friendship or pure love. Its double bloom could also be a reference to the Rose of England, the emblem that united the Tudor houses by bringing an end to the War of the Roses.
