Vertical ink scroll on paper depicting a mountain landscape, a heptasyllabic quatrain by Jiang Shijie (1647 - 1709), a signature and two seals on the upper left: "The rain between sky and lake blurs the horizon| The vernal wind on the grass makes the shore green.
Like [the landscape] of Tongkeng Bridge, the distant mountains offer their green as hair.
[Signed] Wu Qinmu."

Wu Tong (1894 - 1953) was a painter from Jiangsu, famous for his landscapes especially in the style of the Yuan and Ming masters. He was also known as "Qinmu", and had taken the pseudonym "Cold Maple Hermit" and his studio name was "Cold Maple Cottage".
