JAPON — PÉRIODE MEIJI (1868 - 1912)
Black lacquered wood kyokuroku folding chair, leather seat, gold lacquered back decorated with stylized swastikas, and brass reinforcements.

NOTE
These folding chairs were introduced to Japan by Chinese priests and then used by samurai during their travels and missions.
Also seen at ceremonies such as the Imperial Coronation, they are mainly for decorative purposes and are found in Shinto temples.
