"Your so gracious card of congratulations on the shooting star that fell from the sky arrived to me the first of all, and I confess to you that for me it eclipses all those that followed it, for you know in what high esteem I hold your independence of character and your chivalrous loyalty." He asks Mouchez to be his "godfather to give me my insignia. Newton assures that the origin of the constellations dates from the conquest of the Golden Fleece. Who could I choose better than the successor of Newton and Columbus, than the admiral-astronomer who has seen the Southern Cross and who undoubtedly will not refuse to give to a friend of the heavens the modest Northern Cross?"...
