[Pierre-Paul SIRVEN (1709 - 1777), Protestant of Mazamet, was condemned to death in absentia for the murder of his daughter, who would have wanted to convert to Catholicism. Voltaire took up his defense and proved his innocence, and Sirven was rehabilitated]. "Here at last, Sir, is the unfortunate Sirven who appears before you. He will lose this title of unfortunate thanks to your kindnesses, and those of Monsieur l'avocat de La Croix. I can assure you that only innocence and virtue will be seen in him. It is very worthy of you and of Mr. de La Croix to protect a family so cruelly
