"Dear Sir, you are now director of the Odéon. Without wishing in any way to attack your predecessor [Charles de La Rounat], I say: So much the better that it is you!" She wants to recommend the young actor to him
Eugène CLERH (1838 - 1900, who had often played on the theater of
Nohant, and had entered, thanks to Sand, the Odeon where he played notably in The Marquis de Villemer], a young artist precious for the Odeon, one of those modest talents that one always needs, accepting all the roles and playing them with care and pleasure, giving to all a good physiognomy, holding well his place in the repertoire and creating with spirit and conscience the characters, either serious or burlesque that one entrusts to him. In addition, he is a most honest boy, an excellent resident, gentle and well-mannered, always at his post. He is loved at the Odéon, [...] and I have had nothing but praise for his conduct and his work.
