René CHEVAYE (1698 - 1766) was an auditor of the accounts of Brittany in Nantes, but also a poet, cultivating in particular Latin poetry. This correspondence was published in 1858 by Dugast-Matifeux:

(Paris, Potier / Nantes, Petitpas, 1858)| of the 36 letters published, only 19 have been preserved here| the others were already then "in such a state of mould" that transcription was difficult| we have here letters VII, IX and X, XII, XIV to XVI, xviii to XXV, XXVIII and XXIX, and XXXVIII.
We can only give a quick overview of the contents of these letters, where Racine comments on his own works, gives news of the republic of letters, speaks of his father, etc.
