PROUST Marcel (1871 - 1922)
L.A.S. "Marcel Proust", [16 October 1916], to Madame FOURNIER| 3 pages in-8, envelope.
Unpublished letter to the mistress of his brother Robert, during the war.
"My brother has asked me to send you five hundred francs that he owed you. I take the liberty of including them in this letter. I hope that the war will have been less ruthless to you than to me and will not have brought down for you, as it did for me, all your best friends.
Fortunately the one who is dearest to me, my brother, has been preserved.
But I fear for his health the terrible fatigue that his courage makes him not only accept, but seek. At least I hear from all sides that he does infinite good to the wounded. And they are comforted by his gentleness which can be very great, as in all really brave people"...
A L.A.S. from Émile ZOLA, Paris October 17, 1871 (1 p. in-8), asking Duranty to say a word in Paris-Journal about his novel La Fortune des Rougon.
