First edition. One of 40 copies on Hollande laid paper (n° 25), with two documents related to the book: 1. Original photograph showing Victor Hugo seated, embracing his grandchildren: Georges (born in 1868) and Jeanne (born in 1869). The photograph bears the name of Arsène Garnier, photographer in Guernsey. It is reproduced anonymously in the Album Hugo by Martine Ecalle and Violaine Lumbroso (Gallimard, 1964, p. 313).
2. L.A.S. "Papapa" from V. Hugo to his daughter-in-law Alice Hugo, mother of the two children, Paris, September 29 [1874 or 1875] (2 pages large in-8, small mourning): "Today two birthdays. Jeanne is five years old. May she be blessed! Dear Alice [...] you are bored in Aix, and we in Paris [...] birth of the little Gouzien. This Gouzien is a Gouzienne and the
Gouzienne is a Gouluzienne because she loves her mother madly [...]
