Le Traité du Narcisse appeared in the Entretiens politiques et littéraires of January 1, 1891. A few months later, André Gide had a limited edition published by the Librairie indépendante. These drafts show erasures and corrections and variants with the final text.
"There are no more banks, nor source| no more metamorphosis and no more mirrored flower. All these are [sic] pagan stories| when the decor is useless, it must always be removed. [...] My soul! my beautiful soul, ah! if only I could see you!"... Plus a strip with the beginning of this passage.
