DROUET Juliette (1806 - 1883)
L.A.S. "Juliette", Brussels April 4, 1852, to Victor HUGO| 4 pages in-8.
Beautiful love letter to Victor Hugo.
"Good morning my beloved Victor, good morning". She has just returned from mass where she prayed and asked the good God "to make you the happiest of men. How are you this morning my good little man? Have you already taken your drug? I am afraid you have forgotten. It is a great regret for me every time the opportunity arises to treat you and not be able to do so. It seems to me that I came into the world only for that.
[...] I hope that this will make this ugly heartache disappear for ever, my beloved, beloved, beloved Victor. You must not suffer [...] I give you this little branch of boxwood [7 boxwood leaves were left attached to the letter] blessed by my prayer and my kisses. Each of the leaves contains the forgiveness of the seven years you stole from my love. May all the guilty anniversaries which are attached to their number become centuries of glory and happiness for you, may this little branch of peace and oblivion be your talisman against all evils and all dangers, may it guard your body as well as your soul. [...] each of these leaves is made of devotion, tenderness, hope, self-sacrifice, courage, trust and love. Bless you, my Victor"...
