One of his last letters (Malthus died of a heart attack on December 29). [John LINNELL (1792-1882) painter and engraver, author of a portrait of Malthus, then professor of political economy at the English East India Company College in Haileybury, Hertfordshire]. Malthus had just received from Colman (the writer George Colman?, 1762-1836) the sum of 11 pounds 10 shillings with instructions to forward it to Linnell ("to remit to you by draft"). He encloses with his letter a check for the same amount on his bankers Hoare, which he asks to acknowledge. His wife and daughter send their compliments. His son is in Devonshire.
