SAINT-EXUPÉRY Antoine de (1900-1944)

L.A.S. "Saintex", [Casablanca, ca. 1925-1927?], to his pilot friends| 2 pages of one sheet in-4 (27.5 x 21.3 cm) on the letterhead of the "Taverne Brasserie Petit Poucet in Casablanca, black ink (a few light stains and small marginal tears, cracks in the folds).

Beautiful and amusing letter illustrated with five humorous pen-and-ink drawings.

He is back in Morocco after several weeks of hospitalization in Dakar and convalescence in Agay. "My dear children, I am so kind that I am already writing to you. [I am at a standstill in Casa because Jeannet, despite his claims, did not ask for a place for me. They didn't even know I was coming. You can tell him in a friendly way that I'll make it up to him because I don't like it when people make fun of me. He won't take it to heaven (especially if there is no heaven). [I am very sorry to have left you. You are nice guys that I like. Especially since I made up with Riguelle, who is a nice guy. And he with me, who is a nice guy. He did try to get me stolen by the Moors but it failed and I forgive him. And then with a hero like Jeannet, I was not afraid of anything. (He even wanted to take me away right away and leave the airstrip.) [Drawing of the pilot leaving the airstrip] I think that Guillaumet continues to make four small ones a day. (Drawing: Guillaumet, with five children in a rope behind him.) He should keep one for me. But keep him from getting too tired so that there will be a few left when I return. Now it remains for me to thank you for having been so kind during my illness, for having rubbed me, for having fed me, for having distracted me. I hope to be back among you soon and I hold you all close to my heart. And he draws himself leaving the table where he has just written the letter.
