This edition was entirely supervised by the artist who created especially for it the composition in colors illustrating the cover and an original lithograph in black for the frontispiece. Matisse was also responsible for the choice of the works presented in the book, 93 portraits of which 60 were reproduced in black and white and 33 in color by the Ateliers Mourlot.
Edition at 2850 copies, including 500 printed in English as here (n° 1883).
