CELINE Louis Ferdinand (1894-1961).
L.A.S. "Louis", [Copenhagen Prison], Wednesday, August 22, 1946, addressed to his Danish lawyer Thorvald MIKKELSEN and his wife, Lucette DESTOUCHES. 2 pages in-4 in ink on pink paper, letterhead of the prison Københavns Fængsler, Vestre Foengsel.

BEAUTIFUL LETTER FROM PRISON, Largely to his wife LUCETTE, published in Lettres de prison à Lucette Destouches et à Maître Mikkelsen (Gallimard, 1998) [LP114]. He is still sorry to have indisposed his lawyer with his absurd letter about his cat BEBERT, and he anxiously awaits the consequences of his approaches to the ministry.... TO HIS WIFE: "My little mimi you think I have no illusions about my degree of solitude. Pardi! I would have volumes of loneliness to tell ".... He laments: "Alas, hundredfold criminal idiot that I am, to have lost and my independence and supreme loss: my freedom! [...] I unfortunately do not have enough years, months to live to disgorge all that I swallowed in these months of resentment, humiliation and hatred a hatred to death beyond death ... for this appalling injustice that I take with a smile, that I undergo gently. However towards November I will have laughed enough. One year is enough ".... He thinks of returning to France: "Whether I remain indefinitely locked up in Fresnes or here, what difference does it make? At least we will be obliged to judge him: "Here nothing. I am locked up in a cloud behind bars. Everything contradicts and changes. It's a toy of words on the spot. Only one thing is inflexible the key. [No one tells me in black and white why I am being kept locked up and for how long"... Etc.
