INGRES Jean-Dominique (1780-1867).
Autograph Apostille signed "J. Ingres sénateur", Paris, May 3, 1864, on a L.A.S. from Louis LAMOTHE (1822-1869) to baron HAUSSMANN, senator and prefect of the department of the Seine.

2 pages in-folio (folds).

Louis LAMOTHE solicits "a mural painting job" in a monument in Paris, recalling his: "Here are the titles on which I base myself to obtain this great favor: I am the oldest pupil of Mr. Hypolite FLANDRIN| I have helped him in almost all the monumental painting works that he has executed since his return from Rome in 1840", either at Saint-Séverin, at the castle of Dampierre at the Duke of Luynes, at Saint-Paul de Nîmes, at Saint-Vincent-de-Paul and Saint-Germain-des-Prés in Paris, etc. In addition, he worked at Saint-Clotilde, and executed alone murals in several provincial churches (Saint-Gaudens, Tréguier, Nancy)... His master INGRES supports the request with urgency: "This artist worked for me for nearly two years in my studio, which he left to help Mr. Hippte Flandrin in his magnificent works. Mr. Lamothe is full of our principles in art, he practices and teaches them in his school and the well-deserved success of his numerous works, make him today a very distinguished artist"... Another long apostille a.s. from Victor REGNAULT (1810-1878), member of the Academy of Sciences, director of the Imperial Manufacture of Sèvres, supports Lamothe's request (who was Degas' teacher).

- L.A.S. "Ingres", s.d.n.l, addressed to MAGIMEL. 3 pages in-12 (folds).

The painter thanks him for the book he has just written on his engraved work and asks him for a copy to dedicate to his friend: Hittorf (1792-1867), French architect at the origin of the Gare du Nord.
