FOURRÉ Maurice (1876-1959).
TAPScript signed, La Nuit du Rose-Hôtel, 1949| 367 pages (numbered 1-346) in-4 (27 x 19.9 cm), bound in one volume in-4 half red cloth (cloth soiled).
Complete typescript of this surrealist novel, with a mailing to André Breton.
On the title page of this typescript (double carbon), Maurice Fourré has written in pencil his name and address "23 quai Gambetta Angers"| on the title page, in blue pen, he has written this mailing: "To Mr.
André Breton as a tribute of admiration and respect with my simple heart Paris 8 February 1949 Maurice Fourré".
La Nuit du Rose-Hôtel was the first book in the "Révélation" collection published by Gallimard, which André Breton edited and wrote the preface to. This curious novel follows the peregrinations of the inhabitants of a Parisian hotel run by Madame Rose.
It was written between 1944 and 1949, during which time Fourré constantly revised and corrected his text. The manuscript finally reached the hands of Julien Gracq and Michel Carrouges, who passed it on to Breton, who was enthusiastic about this work written by an unaware surrealist, and organised a public reading which was a real success and convinced Jean Paulhan to have it published.
Attached:
- 2 L.A.S. from Maurice Fourré to André Breton, Angers 5 May and 16 July 1949 (2 p. in-4, and 2 p. in-12 on the back of postcards, envelopes), mentioning in particular the progress of his "second 'schematic novel'"...
- autograph list by André BRETON of texts and authors for the collection Révélation (1 p. in-8, on the back of the prière d'insérer of Breton's Poems).

Breton, in the complicity of my heart friend Maurice Fourré 31/8/49".
