Balzac tells of his fall in his property at Les Jardies.
"My dear Madame Delannoi, I have just had a rather deplorable little accident, I have sprained my Achilles tendon and the nerves that wrap around my ankle, in a fall on slippery ground and I am condemned to remain in bed for at least ten days, in the country without being able to move under pain of being injured for the rest of my days, so no Wednesday! Forgive me for being so unhappy, it happened at a very bad time for my business. One of your children Honoré".
