Pinkish beige morocco, first cover decorated with a mosaic in sky blue and red morocco with pyrographic and silver ornaments representing a large cross on which lilies are climbing and around which birds are flying, mosaic and silver decorations on the second plate and the titled spine, large gilt lace inside, mauve silk lining and endpapers embroidered with purple and silver bouquets, gilt head, untrimmed, cover preserved, flap folder and titled ribbed case with mention "Unique copy" (R. Wiener, in Nancy).
First illustrated edition, decorated with vignettes and full-page compositions.
Limited edition of 30 copies, numbered and initialled by the publisher, on Japon paper (this one not numbered).
Illustrator Carlos Schwabe's copy, printed in part on Japan paper with pages 65-128 on publisher's paper. This copy was given by Schwabe to the bookbinder René Wiener, with an autograph letter on the false title: "Dear Sir, I could only get this copy from the publisher. As the only copy left to him (as it is not complete [he must refer to the pages on edition paper], he could not put it on sale) is due to me, you cannot refuse to accept it with my best feelings. O what regrets - great regrets for this book that I hoped to make great. Carlos Schwabe."
