The 505 Pick-up double cabin was presented by Gruau in 1984 at the Paris Motor Show. This vehicle, based on the station wagon version of the Peugeot 505, offered the possibility to transport people and equipment at the same time. After cutting out the rear sheet metal and tailgate, a long and meticulous bodywork process gave the vehicle a new skin. A window was also integrated in the partition wall, allowing the loading to be controlled. This arrangement allowed the vehicle to keep its four doors, its rear bench and its five seats, but also to gain a platform offering a surface of 1.37 m x 1.44 m for a load capacity of 675 kg. The platform could be offered with a one-piece molded polyester hard top or with a tarpaulin mounted on removable hoops. Mainly dedicated to construction companies or to tradesmen and craftsmen, this 505 Pick-Up combined the advantages of a sedan and a utility vehicle. This Pick-Up was also supposed to benefit from an advantageous VAT regime and a commercial vehicle status, but the homologation in this category was not allowed. The project was then abandoned and the six cars that had already been bodied were registered as station wagons and then sold.
The example we present was put on the road on February 21, 1985 in the Rhône region. It bears the Gruau transformation number: Crapa- 011. This Pick-Up has been entirely restored this summer, so the corrosion points have been treated and the bodywork has received a new paint. Blue and red stripes have been added as on the 1984 presentation model. Inside, the upholstery is new and the doors have also been restored. Under the hood, we find a 2.5 l diesel engine that was revised this summer. The car also comes with its original hard top. With its aluminium rims, its double optic headlights and its colored stripes, our Pick-Up has a devastating look. It is ready to take the road and live its second life as a leisure vehicle.
