CHALON Philibert de (1502-1530) prince d'Orange, capitaine des troupes impériales.
P.S., Rome June 26, 1527| countersigned by Bernardus Martiranus| 1 page in-plano, seal with arms under paper| in Italian.
Rare document following the sack of Rome, twenty days after the capitulation of Pope Clement VII (June 6).
[During the siege of Rome, Philibert de Chalon was proclaimed generalissimo following the death of the Constable of Bourbon (May 6), but was unable to prevent the sack of Rome. On 6 June he obtained the capitulation of Clement VII, who had taken refuge in the Castel Sant'Angelo].
By virtue of the capitulation of Pope Clement VII, the city of PIACENZA is now under the power of H.M. the Emperor. In his name, Chalon appoints Philippe de Potiers, gentleman of H.M. and captain of the light horsemen, "commissario del sale" for the city of Piacenza, with all the powers and prerogatives of his office, being able to command by his authority the governor, podestate, and other civil servants of the city and the territory, as well as all the captains and soldiers of the state.
