Size: 535 x 767 mm and 427 x 767 mm| wax seal: 162 mm diameter and 19 mm thick.
Letters patent (no. 85) given in 1865 by Queen Victoria to
William Edward Gedge, an inventor whose company 'John Gedge and
Son' was based in Middlesex (now London), for the invention of an "improved breaking apparatus for cutting iron gas or other pipes" [...] communicated to him from abroad by Jules
Chartriez from Paris [...]". Two parchments bound by a large yellow wax seal decorated on both sides: one representing Queen
Victoria enthroned surrounded by two allegories, and the other representing her parading on horseback with the sceptre.
