NICE]. ALBANIS-BEAUMONT Jean-François (1753-1812)-
Voyage historique et pittoresque du comté de Nice
Geneva, Isac Bardin, 1787. In-folio (492 x 330 mm), half-title-title- 15 pp.-[10] ff. Half calf with corners, gilt roulette on the edge of the boards, red ochre morocco title-piece, spine with ornamented nerves (period binding).
First edition, very rare. It is illustrated in the first edition with a map and twelve engraved views (on 9 leaves) and finely coloured by Gabriel Lory l'Ancien.
"As this work is in a picturesque rather than historical taste, I have not elaborated much on the origin and the customs of the ancient inhabitants of the County of Nice| I thought I had to limit myself to giving simple notes on the locality of the country, as well as on the most necessary things to know, and which can interest those who will wish to come and spend a season there as well as those who, having stayed in this delightful country, will want to remember it."
Complete with its dedication and explanation of the plates at the end of the volume
A fine copy with very fresh colouring.
(Some marginal foxing, a few leaves detached| binding rubbed, spine slightly detached).
REFERENCE Abbey, I, 48.
Attached: [NICE]. VISCONTI, Nice and its surroundings. Paris. Visconti, s.d. [circa 1850]. Oblong folio, printed and illustrated publisher's boards. Edition illustrated with 13 life drawings by F. Cockx, lithographed in two colours by Daniaud, one of which is on the title, repeated on the binding.
(Scattered marginal foxing, foxing on title and binding, missing spine).
