Pair of porcelain and enamel bowls of the pink family on green background, of flared form on a small heel, decorated inside, with children playing, holding flowering branches, ruyi sceptre, fruit cup, next to saddles and other movable objects, the reverse side depicting a procession of children musicians or holding pennants and banners| the opening underlined by a golden net. Jiaqing mark in six coral characters on the base.
H. 9 cm - D. 17,7 cm - 17,3 cm (Small retractions of enamel around the edges, not through, some inner scratches of the enamel)
PROVENANCE
French private collection since 1930, confirmed by an inventory by Portier dated March 1, 1976.
Note
The theme of children playing, a particularly popular iconography and frequent on many decorative objects, refers to that of the "Hundred Children", symbol of fertility, prosperity and happiness. Confucianism, which governed many aspects of daily life, considered it important to have many children, especially sons, in order to fulfil the obligations of filial piety and towards the ancestors. In Taoist philosophy, the child symbolizes the innocence of the wise.
This model of bowl is inspired by prototypes from the Kangxi period.
