Since the appearance of the 250 GTE, Ferrari has always offered in its catalogue a luxurious and Grand Touring model intended more for the road than for the circuits. Based on a concept of a 2+2 coupé with sedan dimensions, the 365 GT4 2+2, with its characteristic shapes, appeared in 1972. In 1985, after the 365 GT4, the 400 and then the 400i, it was the 412 that took up the timeless design signed Pininfarina. The few aesthetic modifications are aimed at rejuvenating a model that has already lived well. The bumpers are better integrated and the rear trunk is slightly raised. On the mechanical side, the engine's displacement is slightly optimized and peaks at 4,942 cc with 340 hp still on the program. The V12 can be mated to either an automatic or manual transmission. The self-locking axle is standard, as are the hydropneumatic rear suspensions. The interior is modernised with a new Momo steering wheel and a redesigned centre console. The last representative of the so-called "cubist" Ferrari coupes, the 412 was produced in only 576 units, ending a career spanning more than fifteen years. The 412 presented here is a model put into circulation on May 6, 1986 in France. Sold new by the Charles Pozzi establishments in Paris where it was regularly serviced, it is then registered 198 FWY 75. The engine was rebuilt in 2008 and the gearbox in 2011. A major overhaul in December 2015 was carried out at Fiorano Racing then the car is sold at auction by one of our colleagues in 2016. The new owner, who is also an informed collector, bought the car and then started a total paint job in 2019 (invoice of almost 7 000 € available) as well as changing the stainless steel exhaust system and the collectors for a total of almost 6 000 €. Carefully maintained by its owner, who does not hesitate to borrow it for long trips, the V12 coupled to its automatic gearbox is a model of smoothness. Inside, everything works, including the recently revised air conditioning. The leather of the seats is superbly patinated by its 30 years of age and remains taut. The culmination of the lineage of the great GT 2+2 Ferraris of the 70s and 80s, the 412 has only been produced in 576 units and still retains a more than reasonable rating for a Ferrari with a V12 engine. This original French car with a very rich history is the perfect illustration of this.
